OUR PROMISE
sustainability
Slow craft. Local production. Made when it's ordered.
Sustainability isn't a marketing line for us — it's the only way we know how to make apparel that lasts.
We don't make what nobody asked for
The fashion industry overproduces by an estimated 30 to 40 percent. Unsold inventory ends up in landfills, incinerators, or shipped overseas to be someone else's problem.
CozyPawfect runs on a different model. Nothing is stitched until you order it. When you place an order, our partner studios in the US and Canada pull pre-shrunk garment-dyed cotton from inventory, thread the embroidery machine with your chosen colourway, and stitch your piece by hand. That's it. No warehouses full of unsold hoodies. No markdowns to clear stock. No landfill waste from overproduction.
The trade-off is honest: your order takes 5 to 10 business days to make and ship, versus next-day from a print-on-demand giant. We think a piece worth keeping for a decade is worth waiting a week for.
Made close to where it ships
Every CozyPawfect garment is embroidered in either Canada or the United States, then shipped to a Canadian or US address. We don't fly hoodies across the Pacific to save a few dollars on labour. The carbon footprint of a CozyPawfect hoodie from order to doorstep is roughly a third of a comparable garment manufactured in Southeast Asia and air-freighted to North America.
We picked this model on day one and we won't change it. Local production keeps the craft alive, supports skilled embroiderers near where you live, and lets us answer "where was this made" with one word: here.
The fabric does most of the work
We use 100% pre-shrunk, garment-dyed cotton across the line. Three small choices that add up:
- Pre-shrunk — the cotton is washed and shrunk before it's cut, so the hoodie you receive is the hoodie you keep. No surprise size change after the first wash. Fewer returns. Fewer replacements.
- Garment-dyed — colour is applied after the garment is sewn, which uses less water than yarn-dyed and gives the soft, lived-in tone we love. The colour deepens over time instead of fading out.
- 100% cotton — natural fibre, biodegradable at end of life, breathable on your body. No synthetic blends that shed microplastics in the wash.
Hand-embroidered outlasts printed
This is the part of sustainability nobody talks about: the longest-lasting garment is the most sustainable one.
A printed pet hoodie typically shows visible degradation around wash 30 to 50 — cracks in the design, faded edges, peeling vinyl. That hoodie ends up at the back of the closet, then in a donation bag, then more often than not in a textile dump.
A hand-embroidered design has no surface layer to crack. The thread is part of the garment. We have customer pieces from our first run that still look the way they did out of the box. A hoodie you wear for ten years is dramatically more sustainable than three hoodies you wear for three years each — regardless of what the marketing copy says. See exactly how we make them last →
What we're still working on
We're not certified anything yet. We don't claim to be carbon neutral, climate positive, or any of the labels that require auditors we can't afford as a small studio. Here's what we're honest about:
- Our packaging is recyclable kraft mailer, but not yet compostable. We're testing compostable alternatives that hold up in winter shipping.
- Our threads are high-grade polyester (for durability and colourfastness). We're sourcing a recycled-polyester equivalent that meets the same stitch density standard.
- We don't yet publish a full lifecycle assessment. We will when we have data we trust.
We'd rather under-promise and improve in public than overstate where we are.
